Day 1 5AM Update: Men's Cycling Road Race *SPOILERS*

Lots of action going on all over Beijing. The major event happening right now is the men's road race as it is in its final lap of the race, the finish line being near the Great Wall of China.

Earlier today:
The first medals of these games were awarded in women's shooting and women's weightlifting.
Czech Republic's Katerina Emmons won the women's 10m Air Rifle shooting competition and became the first Olympic gold medalist in Beijing.

Meanwhile, China received its first of what could be many gold medals when Chen Xiexia won the women's flyweight by lifting a total of 212 kilograms, a new Olympic record.

Preliminary matches took place in judo, boxing and badminton. Games in handball and basketball also took place today as well. New Zealand held of Mali, 76-72.

Currently Going On:
The men's cycling road race has just concluded. The results are below this post in our spoiler alert.

Also ongoing are preliminary matches in women's soccer. The United States is playing against Japan while Germany is facing Nigeria. Brazil is currently playing South Korea in women's basketball. Preliminary heats are also occuring in rowing.

ON TV:
Now on USA Network, live soccer as the United States is facing Japan. And on MSNBC, live women's soccer as Germany plays Nigeria. Korea is playing Brazil in women's basketball and that can be seen on the Olympic Basketball Channel.

Later today, you can catch the United States women's basketball team play the Czech Republic on USA Network. And on NBC starting at 10AM, coverage can be seen of the men's road race and women's indoor volleyball as well as preliminary heats in swimming.

Men's Cycling Road Race Results (event can be seen later today on NBC)
This was the first major gold medal event of these games and like in this year's Tour de France, a Spanish rider is the victor of a major cycling race. Finishing in first is Samuel Sanchez, who came back from fourth postion to overtake the lead riders. He finished the 245 km event in a time of 6 hours 23 minutes and 49 seconds.

The winner of the silver medal is Italy's Davide Rebellin and Switzerland's Fabian Cancellara won the bronze medal.
