Day 7 10AM Update: Weather Delays Soccer Quarterfinal, Blake Loses, Medals Awarded in Track Cycling, Judo


Day has given way to night in Beijing and its been a very busy night as we enter an extremely action-packed weekend.

U.S.-Canada Quarterfinal Resumes After Delay Due to Lightning
The quarterfinal game between the United States and Canada began under very heavy rain was halted midway through the first half due to lightning. The delay lasted around 40 minutes and the United States had the lead off of a goal scored by Angela Huckles in the 12th minute. After the delay, Christine Sinclair scored late in the first half to tie the game 1-1.

The match headed into overtime and Natasha Kai of the United States scored in the 101st minute. The game is currently in the second half of overtime.

In other matches played today, Brazil made the semifinal round after defeating Norway, 2-1. China currently trails Japan at halftime by a score of 1-0. Germany and Sweden are currently scoreless at halftime.

Blake Falls to Gonzalez in Semifinal, Federer moves on in doubles
The roles were switched today for Roger Federer and James Blake as Blake lost to defending gold medalist Fernando Gonzalez of Chile in today's semifinal while Roger Federer advanced to the next round in the doubles competition with his partner Stanislas Wawrinka. Yesterday, James Blake ousted Roger Federer in singles competition in straight sets, defeating him for the first time in nine tries. The Williams sisters advanced to the next round in doubles too after both Venus and Serena lost yesterday in women's singles competition.
