EVENTS TO WATCH...
- Artistic Gymnastics: Men's Team Final, 10:00PM
(LIVE ON NBC AND LIVE BLOG ON NOW Sports)
Thanks to persistence by NBC, the men's team final in artistic gymnastics will be shown live from National Indoor Stadium tonight in primetime in the United States as it takes place in the morning in Beijing. The United States will be seeking another medal after winning silver in Athens four years ago. However, the best they can probably do is win bronze as the competition is expected to be between the defending champions Japan and heavily favored host nation China.
- Swimming: Men's 200 meter freestyle final, 10:16PM
(LIVE ON NBC AND LIVE BLOG ON NOW Sports)
All eyes will be on Michael Phelps again as he competes in the final of the Men's 200 meter freestyle, an event which he is heavily favored in. Four years ago, this was the race to watch and Phelps finished with the bronze medal behind Ian Thorpe and Peter van den Hoogenbond. In Beijing, his biggest threat may be Korean upstart Taehwan Park, who said in a Xinhua News Agency report, "I will defeat Phelps tomorrow!" Alain Bernard made predictions before the men's 4x100 meter freestyle, and we all know what happened to him and his French team.
Also, finals will be contested in the Women's 100 meter backstroke, where American Natalie Coughlin is heavily favored. Gold medals will also be decided in the men's 100 meter backstroke and the women's 100m breaststroke.
- Canoe/Kayak Slalom Finals, 4:47AM
(Can be Seen on NBC Daytime starting at 10AM ET)
There is slated to be huge matchup between Tony Estanquet of France, who has won the last two Olympic C1 Slalom gold medals, and Slovakia's Michal Martikan, who thought he won gold in Athens before video evidence had shown his helmet had touched a gate. Estanquet is seeking a record third consecutive gold medal. Meanwhile, Martikan wants his first gold medal since winning it in Atlanta 12 years ago.
